TLC Pharmaceutical Standards Ltd. specializes in the custom synthesis of complex organic compounds for use as reference standards by the bio-medical and pharmaceutical industries around the world. TLC offers over 20,000 certified reference standards from stock and we add approximately 2000 new standards yearly. Opening positions:


1. Synthetic Organic Chemist:


We are currently looking for Synthetic Chemists who will be able to perform complex and diverse organic synthesis, purifications, and characterization under the supervision of a senior chemist.
  • PhD, MSc or BSc in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, applied chemistry, or related field.
  • Strong interest in synthetic organic chemistry with a hard-working mindset.
  • Understands the physical and chemical properties of different reactions, raw materials, intermediates, and reagents, with the ability to select appropriate reaction conditions by referring to literature.
  • High proficiency with thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, recrystallization, and other purification methods.
  • Strong knowledge of organic chemical reactions, mechanisms.
  • Ability to perform NMR and Mass spectrum analysis will be a strong asset.
  • Work on a number of different projects of varying lengths and complexity.
  • Keeps a complete and accurate record of all observations, measurements, techniques, procedures, and conclusions in the laboratory notebook.
  • Good communication and learning skills.
  • Strong teamwork ability with a sense of responsibility.
  • Self-motivated and works with minimal supervision.

2. Purchaser:

General Summary:


The Purchaser will be responsible for procuring materials to fulfill the company’s operational needs. Additionally, the Purchaser will also be required to:
  • Negotiate pricing with vendors and analyze quotes from existing and new vendors.
  • Evaluate existing vendors for service and reliability.
  • Qualify and approve new vendors.
  • Ensure the purchasing needs of all departments are promptly taken care of.
  • Manage and keep track of the database for chemical and office inventories.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Ensure that equipment & inventory purchase requests are executed in a timely manner.
  • Order materials regularly and release purchase orders as per the company’s requirements.
  • Responsible for effective cost savings and negotiating with vendors to meet target budgets.
  • Working on process improvement initiatives to improve daily operations and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Communicate any delivery issues with related departments as soon as they are known.
  • Evaluate vendors based on product quality, pricing, delivery times, service, and keep track of all issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining Supplier agreements and deliverables.
  • Responsible to resolve any shortages or discrepancies on received materials with accounting.
  • Responsible for bi-annual review of stocks levels.
  • Periodically check with alternate vendor quotes to ensure competitiveness of existing vendors.
  • Negotiate price with vendors and maintaining vendor pricing records as needed for analysis.
  • Review open purchase orders to reduce or increase quantities as necessary.
  • Communicate with Quality Assurance and other related departments regarding any issues and rejections with vendors.
  • Follow SOP on regular basis to be in compliance.
  • Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • University or College degree in business or a similar field. Chemistry background is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word and other computer programs.
  • Can familiarize and understand the needs of different business departments of an organization.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a team-based environment but also work independently when needed.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a proactive attitude and forward thinking mindset.
  • Attention to detail.

3. Junior Chemist - Weighing Associate:

Major Responsibilities:


  • Inspect, verify and confirm order quantity and product labelling before final packaging.
  • Retrieve chemical compounds from inventory.
  • Dispense products in precise quantities using the analytical balance and proper dispensing procedures to minimize material loss and prevent cross contamination.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of supplies of materials and equipment required for daily work.
  • Maintain documentation of weighing records and orders in clear and organized manner.
  • Ensure all chemical compounds are stored appropriately.

Job Qualifications:


  • Bachelor in Science in Chemistry or its equivalents.
  • High attention to quality and details.
  • Well organized, detail oriented and able to work under strict deadlines.
  • Able to work in a team and achieve result as a team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Able to adapt and make appropriate judgement to sudden change in daily workflow or work procedure.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Offices programs (especially Word and Excel).

4. Shipping Clerk:

Major Responsibilities:


  • Inspect, verify and enter information required for order processing into the system.
  • Creates shipping waybill and prepares documents for courier shipments.
  • Prepares goods for daily couriers pick ups.
  • Maintain documentation of orders in clear and organized manner.
  • Communicates with third party couriers and customers to resolve export and imports related issues.
  • Other related duties as assigned to support shipping/receiving and operations teams.

Qualifications:


  • College degree or equivalent.
  • Administrative or data entry experience.
  • High attention to quality and details.
  • Well organized, detail oriented and able to work under strict deadlines.
  • Able to work in a team and achieve result as a team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Able to adapt and make appropriate judgement to sudden change in daily workflow or work procedure.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Offices programs (especially Word and Excel).
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge in FedEx, DHL and UPS shipping systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge in international trades terms is an asset.
